Studies examining family trends have shown that we are now, more than ever, interested in genealogy. Researching our ancestry can give us an insight into who we really are. Laurent Miquel is a family run wine estate with roots eight generations deep. Our wine is testament to the layers of knowledge passed down through these generations and Laurent’s innovative approach to wine and wine making will most certainly be handed down to the generations to come.
The Miquel’s Legacy & Laurent’s Father: Henri
Laurent Miquel is built on a 2000 year old Languedoc winemaking legacy, started by the Romans, pursued but the Monks of Fontcaude until the French Revolution and 1791, when the Miquel family purchased the Cazal Viel estate.
For over 225 years the Miquel family have treasured these rocky, limestone lands, near the Mediterranean Sea.
Forty years ago Henri Miquel, Laurent’s father became a pioneer of Syrah in the Languedoc planting new Syrah vines and rejuvenating the old. Laurent joined him in the 1990s when the Miquels focus on Viognier and aromatic whites began. Father and son have taken noble varieties to create majestic wines. Laurent will be the first to say how his father has inspired and encouraged him, passing on his winemaking knowledge through a deep respect for the land.
Today, our wines reflect our family, past and present generations.
Père & Fils (Father & Son) and Les Auzines Alaina Rosé – named after the newest member of the family.
Share the Heritage, Share the Wine
We can’t underestimate the importance of our heritage. Family meals, holidays and multi-generational living allow us to spend valuable time with loved ones.
So, this weekend, on Father’s day, sit down with your family. Put down your smart phones, ask your father a question about his life, and listen. Then I’ll allow you to pick up your phone again, with a glass of wine, to record the moment with a toast to our fathers.
